Can You Really Promote Your Website For Free?

Can you really promote your website for free? Yes! If you think it through and do it right, you can drive traffic to your website successfully.

So how does it work? Where do you start? What should you do?

Here are 10 simple steps you can take to get your website noticed.

1.       Spruce your website up! Get your SEO (search engine optimization) in order. Make sure that you have populated your home page with keywords and have added the meta tags and meta description. Is your website readable? Do you have valuable content? Do you offer something for free to gather signups?

2.       Add Google Analytics to your site. Google Analytics allows you to analyze your traffic and marketing effectiveness. It is easy to use.
3.       Take advantage of free search enging listing sites. Of course don't forget to list with Google and Yahoo. Here are a couple of free services:
4.       Get some link popularity. It's a great way to achieve a high ranking in the search engines. Link at Dmoz. http://www.dmoz.org/. You can also submit your site to different directories. Check out InCrawler. http://www.incrawler.com/cgi-bin/dir/addurl.cgi

5.       Write a press release about your business or a project your business is undertaking or has undertaken. What's unique about your business? Write up a paragraph about something interesting and email it to anyone you can think of. Below are some useful links you may want to consider.
6.       Join forums that relate to your website. With every post, make sure you have your signature containing links back to your website and perhaps even, if the forum allows it, a mention of a special offer you have on your website. Get known as an expert.

7.       Write articles. Articles are a great way to develop credibility as an expert in your niche. Submit your articles to free article submission sites like www.ezinearticles.com or www.selfgrowth.com. Be sure your bio has links back to your website. It's also a good idea to allow other sites to use your article as long as they keep your bio and website links attached to the article.

8.       Have a good email signature containing all the links back to your site or special offers. Use it with every email you send out and with every post to forums. Pass it around. Let it go viral.

9.       Create a little video for YouTube around a freebie you are offering on your site or about your area of expertise. In the video credits be sure you have your website url.

10.    If you sell products, allow affiliates to sign up to help you sell. Be sure that you have good graphics and links for your affiliates to use.

Of course, there are times when it is not productive for you to take these steps and you may want to outsource. You can hire a Virtual Assistant who specailizes in website promotion. Using a VA allows you to use your strengths in the most productive way. They are not free but it is money well spent.

There are many other ways you can get noticed online but if you start with these first few steps, you will get noticed!
